GRATEFUL

These may not be the first thoughts that come to our heads, but it's a good reminder that us mamas have a lot more to be thankful for than we might initially think!

I Thessalonians 5:15 ~ Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

WHO TOLD YOU?

If you follow our 1st SISTERHOOD social media sites you saw an excerpt from this blog post.  It's such a powerful message, that I wanted share the the post in its entirety for our MOTHERHOOD blog this month.  Read the entire post below from valeriewienersart.com/blog.  I hope God uses it to speak to your heart like it did mine.

GENESIS 3:11 - Who Told You?

I've been thinking how I was going to write this to go with the release for my painting and print for weeks now. I haven't come up with an awesome way but I'm just going to spill my guts and tears to you and I hope and pray you'll walk away with a new perspective...

Growing up with the last name "Wieners" I got made fun of a lot. A whole lot! I remember the first time it happened I was in First grade. That was the first time I ever felt different for something I had absolutely no control over. Someone made a joke about my name and everyone else laughed at me. That was the first time I remember feeling shame.

I remember in Third grade my teacher told me in front of the whole class at story time that my teeth were yellow. I didn't like smiling after that day.

I remember my Freshman year when the kids in my art class would make fun of my size. I stopped eating after that.

I remember when my Dad got mad at me for crying. I stopped showing emotion after that.

I remember when my body was used as an object against my will. I stopped caring after that.

I remember every comment made about my appearance. I remember every time you tell me I look pretty and every time you tell me I look healthy and every time you tell me I look skinny and every time you tell me my legs are big. I remember every magazine that tells me I'm overweight and every news channel that tells me I need to try out this new diet. I remember every conversation that tells me I need to learn how to put on makeup because guys want someone who can look like a lady. I remember every diet pill and cellulite remover. I remember every comment that talks down about someone's looks. I remember. And I can't forget them. I can't un-see or un-hear or unread those things. They are with me and sometimes I let them fester inside of me and I start believing that I am worthless, and used, and fat, and look like a boy, and ugly, and shameful, and addicted, and I'll never be capable of love.

Then I remember Genesis 3:11...."Who told you that you were naked?"

Adam and Eve are in the garden and they have fallen. They are full of shame because Satan told them they were naked after they sinned. They then starting covering themselves up. I imagine layers and layers of leaves because they don't want anything real to show. I imagine Eve is trying to hide her thunder thighs and cellulite (my words of course). Then God says with some hurt in his voice like a loving father when his child feels sad, "Who told you that you were naked?"

In other words,
Who told you that you were ugly?
Who told you that you were too much?
Who told you that you couldn't do that?
Who told you that you were the problem?
Who told you that you weren't pretty?
Who told you that you were fat?
Who told you that you weren't a good mom?
Who told you that you'll never amount to anything?
Who told you that you'll never be loved?
.
Who told you? Who?!
Not God, not Jesus.
Because I know that He IS and always will be for us. Over and over we see how He has rescued us and how He loves us!
He tells me that I am a MASTERPIECE.
He tells me that I am FEARFULLY & WONDERFULLY MADE.
He tells me that I am a NEW CREATION.
He tells me that I am an ORIGINAL.
He tells me that I am MADE FOR A PURPOSE.
He tells me I am ENOUGH.
He tells me I am BEAUTIFUL.

He tells me all these things daily! The hardest part is stopping long enough to listen to Him and to stop listening to what the world tells me I should be. Romans 12:2 reminds me not to conform to what the world is doing but let my mind be changed and transformed, made new.

That means I have to quit all this negative self-talk and stop letting all the comments of the world bother me. I know what my God says about me and that's all that matters! I've had to write this verse everywhere and say it out loud several times a day and even inside my head hundreds of times a day. Anytime you feel like you don't measure up in one way or another, I hope that you will softly say to yourself, "who told you?" --- in my experience it changes my outlook and I have to think that it was not someone who was on my side.

Jesus wins and I believe what he tells me..... His child, His beautiful daughter.

Who are we really serving?

Colossians 3:23
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart,
as working for the Lord, not for human masters,
since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

It might feel on a daily basis like you are a slave to your children, your husband, your boss, or any number of things that consume our day.  However difficult it might be, we need to remember that in whatever we do, we are serving the LORD.  So whether you're changing the 7th poopy diaper of the day or filling in spreadsheets for work, do it with the right attitude as if you were doing it directly for God. Your daily grind may never be rewarded on earth, but our true inheritance comes from the LORD.  And PRAISE THE LORD for his endless grace when we fall short of what we are called to do.  We can accept HIS grace and strength and keep on trying!

The Death of Joy

This month I'm just going to say a few words about something that has been on my mind A LOT lately... comparison.  I don't think I'm the only one who struggles with this... at least I hope I'm not!  It seems like it comes so naturally to compare yourself to those around you - your looks, your abilities and inabilities, your home, your kids, your relationship with Jesus, everything!  It can really be a downer, but there have been some encouraging words that I've been reminding myself of lately, and I thought I'd remind you all too.

>> Comparison will consistently cloud the clarity of God's call on your life. - Robert Madu

>> Comparison is the death of joy. - Mark Twain  (Isn't this the truth!)

>> Personality begins where comparison leaves off. Be unique. Be memorable. Be confident. Be proud. - Shanon Adler

>> Comparing kills fulfillment. - Todd Stocker

>> Peter must have thought, "Who am I compared to Mr. Faithfulness (John)?" But Jesus clarified the issue. John was responsible for John. Peter was responsible for Peter. And each had only one command to heed: "Follow Me." (John 21:20-22)  - Charles Swindoll

The Bible says:

"...When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise."  2 Corinthians 10:12

I was reminded by a wise woman of the story of the loaves and fishes.  How the little boy brought his small lunch to Jesus, and He fed a multitude with it.  So in other words, however small you think your talents or abilities are, if you give yourself to Jesus, you will be more than enough for whatever comes your way today.  Don't let your clarity be clouded by unfair comparisons.  In Christ, you are more than enough!

Moms... We need each other!

So it's finally May.  It's the month all moms are supposed to get their day.  The day where we are celebrated and treated like queens.  We all know that's not exactly how it goes, but that's motherhood for you!  This month in the blog we are going to hear from Amy Prebil, the leader of our Little Blessings group. She is an amazing mother herself and has a huge heart for young moms and all the struggles they share. What started out as a handful of young moms has now grown into a ministry that is reaching out and supporting moms from our church and community through all kinds of trials, big and small.  Thanks for your faithfulness and being a blessing to so many, Amy!

"Attention all moms of little ones and also moms-to-be:  The Little Blessings group is growing and God has so much planned for this group of ladies.  If you are not yet a part of this group, it's a great time to join.  You'll never regret it!  Little Blessings meets every 4th Thursday night of the month in the cafe, and we also often meet for dinners and play dates throughout the month.  Little Blessings is about building relationships with other moms in the church, making new friends (sisters), encouraging and uplifting one another, laughing, and snacking on goodies.  We have so much fun together.  We laugh, cry, and grow closer to each other and closer to God after each meeting.  We pray for each other, help each other when we are down, and praise God for answers to prayer.  During April's meeting, we talked about stress and read through 25 encouraging scripture on stress.  We then had amazing prayer time and  finished it off with some coloring while we talked and laughed.

I can't say enough about the impact Little Blessings has had on so many lives.   It is God-created and God-run.  God's blessing is on this group, and He is going to continue blessing us and working through us.  If you are interested in joining or hearing more about the group please feel free to Facebook message me, call or text me at 262-442-7516."

The moms in this group are really so open and honest in sharing their struggles and encouraging each other.  I just wanted to share a few quotes from them telling how God has used Little Blessings in their lives.

"I can honestly say that Little Blessings is more than just a group of moms getting together.  It has turned into way more than that, long term friendships, wonderful support system, prayer warriors, and of course lots of laughing!!  I am amazed at what a complete blessing this group is, and I love it!"  -  Sarah D.

"My family moved here from Fargo, ND, leaving everything and everyone I am close with behind.  The move and starting over has been difficult on me.  At times I wanted to give up on everything.  Obviously God doesn't work like that.  He opened doors through WFA by connecting us with people which ultimately brought me to Little Blessings.  This group has shown me what living Christ's love looks like.  I have experienced joy, acceptance, and His love through the ladies in this group.  I am excited to be a part of this group and to see what God does through and in the lives of these women!"  - Brittney H.

"Little blessing is an amazing bunch of women who are going through similar life events.  We encourage each other almost daily, and we help support each other when we need help.  These women have been a blessing in my life, and I'm always looking forward to our Little Blessings meetings!"  - Claire M.

"I love how we are all there for each other no matter what we are going through in our lives.  This group is very special, and I can't wait to see it grow!!!"  - Aimee H.

"I walked into WFA 3 years ago; if it was not for Little Blessings I would not have the friendships, support, and the Faith I have today."  - Melissa S.

"Little Blessings has helped me grow close relationships with other moms.  I know I can count on these ladies for support and encouragement."  - Jenny Z.

"The Little Blessings group is like a mom to me when I need one. These ladies are always there to lean on, cry with, lift me up in prayer, feed me and my family if necessary, make me laugh, give me advise, and remind me that I don't have to be perfect. A night with this group is refreshing and energizing."  - Crystal P.

If you have a mom in your life who is in need of encouragement or just a good laugh, then make sure to spread the word.  Every member of this group looks forward to new faces and the new opportunities they will bring to be used by God!
