Nurture Newsletter
July 28, 2014
In this day and age, image is everything. If you don't look "the part," it can make you feel bad about yourself. Our children can struggle with this, as well. But how we look, isn't who we are.
1 Samuel 16:7 says "Man looks at the outward appearance, but The Lord looks at the heart."
Let's teach our children to know and follow the Word of The Lord, so they will move ever closer to the heart of Jesus - and develop a healthy self-concept in the process.

He who seeks good finds goodwill. Proverbs 11:27

Nurture Newsletter
July 14, 2014

The Lord has given me a sense of humor, and with having 5 children, I am extremely grateful for that. Kids are forever doing things that can try our patience.
There was the night that my 7 and 4 year old boys were a little wild in bed and not falling asleep. My husband went in their room again and again to tell them to settle down. Finally, he had had enough, and told them that the next time he had to come in there he was giving out spankings. To which my 7 year old immediately, and a little too excitedly, replied "For free??"
Even my husband came out of that room with a smirk on his face.
This story reminds us that when King Solomon began his quest to discover the meaning of life, he believed that laughter was "foolish" (Ecclesiastes 2:2). But when he investigated further, he realized that God orders all things according to His purposes - that there is "a season for every activity under heaven" (3:1), including "a time to laugh" (v. 4). Sometimes you may discover that the most godly response is not one of anger or disapproval. You've entered a new season - a time to laugh.

Yesterday, Pastor Todd spoke on doubt. Do you ever doubt your ability to parent?
Self-doubt seems to be a cultural phenomenon that plagues many parents today. If you find yourself struggling with this, focus on the comfort and truth that comes from God.
"Cast your cares on The Lord and he will sustain you" Psalm 55:22
There are no perfect parents just like there are no perfect people. Lean on God to help you through - and don't let anxiety and guilt steal the joy of being a mom!
